 Lake Melintang is located at Kota Bangun Subdistrict, about 11.000 ha wide. Called ‘melintang’ because this lake lies athwart (means ‘melintang’ in Indonesia) at Pela Village. This lake is rich with river fish. The other lakes are: Lake Wis (750 ha), Lake Kendang Murung (750 ha), Lake Nusa Katung (100 ha), Lake Seguntur (75 ha), Lake Loa Kang (about 450 ha).
Lake Semayang lies at Semayang Village, about 13.000 ha. This lake also produces river fish. Lake around this are: Lake Kahoi Pongkoi (about 175 ha), Lake Pirau (about 100 ha), Lake Kojo (about 100 ha), Lake Puan Rabuk (about 30 ha), Lake Kahoi (about 20 ha), and Lake Loa Maon (about 100 ha). Visitors can visit those lakes by river boat (Samainda Kota Bangun), then from Kota Bangun-Lake Melintang they can charter ketinting (small boat). |

 Among the mountains, there exist a number of tops or mounts, while the highest is : bulungan Regency (Mount Makita 2,987 m, Mount Lagaparatu 1,802 m, Mount Todadaun 1,753 m, and Mount Tukuksilo 1,731 m); berau Regency (Mount Kundas 1,670 m, Mount Beriun 1,380 m and Mount Serawan 1,230 m); kutai Regency (Mount Liang Pran 2,240 m, Mount Kong Kiau 2,053 m, Mount Menyapa 2,000 m, Mount Kong Kemul 1,807 m, Mount Badat 1,700 m, Mount Kong Petah 1,684 m, Mount Batu Atan 1,652 m, and Mount Baturrok 1,548 m); pasir Regency (Mount Sarempake 1,380 m, and Mount Lumut 1,236 m).
Those mountains are potential with the mine ore, bird’s nest and phosphate. |

 These waters and the sea have 279 islands in the rivers, 50 on the mouth, and 229 in the sea (Sulawesi Ocean and Makasar Strait). Most of the islands are in bulungan Regency, at rivers, and at the mouth of river, as well as in Sulawesi Ocean (123 islands), among them the farthest are Sipadan island and Ligitan island. The second is in berau Regency. Although most of the islands here are small, it has high potency is fishing as well as in maritime tourism (such as diving with beautiful under water scenery). Berau has 57 islands, the farthest is Sambit Island.
Furthermore, kutai Regency has many island, too, especially at the mouth of Mahakam River, the total amount is 91. They are potential with offshore gas/oil mining, especially in Bekapai and Pemarung Island.pasir Regency has 6 island, balikpapan Municipality has 2, while samarinda Municipality has none. |

 Lumbis Subdistrict lies at hinterland of Sembakung River, with the capital Atap. It is about 215 Km from tarakan to Atap. The Northern part of this area is contingous with East Sabah/Malaysia, the citizens are mostly of Tagel Tribe, Tenggalan Tribe, and Berusu Tribe. They live traditional life as farmers.
We can go to this place by river boat (Tarakan-Atap/Mensalong).

 Located at Km 54 balikpapan-samarinda broad way, it is about 70.000 ha wide. This area was declared as the location of Research Forest by the Departement of Forestry. East Kalimantan, for provisioning the scare tress and the homoge of forest dweller. This location is good for camping and cross country.
